SURINAME "THE BIRTH OF A STAMP", 7 designs, bought in the may auction 1974 of van Dieten for fl.5000,=, In 1952 Suriname decided to design their own stamps. Nic Loning a drawing teacher in Paramaribo was asked to take steps. Via Enschede en sons, Haarlem, he came in contact with Sem Hartz and as a result the set native scenes appeared in 1953. After that he designed several different sets. The only designs he by change kept, are these 7 ex. We are lucky that these little pieces of art are kept and now available for the collectors.
