Oliver Cromwell 1599-1658, Shilling 1658, S.3228, nice patina, very rare!, unc. He led the Republican troupes in de English Civil Wars against Charles I. This led to the abolition of the Monarchy in 1649, Cromwell became that year head of State of the Commonwealth, after beheading Charles I. In 1654 he was chosen as Lord Protector. Between 1655 en 1658 he reigned as a dictator. He died on september the 3th 1658 and was suceeded by his son Richard. He was not equal for this function, therefore the Parlement reinstalled the Monarchy with Charles II as King.
